The Inside-Out Newsletter

To keep our community updated on what's new, The Inside-Out Center has launched a newsletter to be circulated on the first of each month. The Inside-Out Newsletter serves to recap the previous month's events, share Inside-Out stories, and promote upcoming opportunities to get involved.

November 2021

The ninth newsletter in this volume recaps our 'Reimagining Justice' event held in October featuring District Attorney Larry Krasner, and provides a link to watch the panel discussion. Additionally, the University of North Texas announces the launch of an Inside-Out program; Charles Bell, assistant professor of criminal justice sciences at Illinois State University announces the release of his new book, Suspended: Punishment, Violence, and the Failure of School Safety; Barrett, The Honors College, at Arizona State University highlights their Inside-Out Men and Feminism course; and Pitzer College shares exciting student success stories from their Inside-Out Pathway-to-BA program.

October 2021

Our eighth newsletter highlights Inside-Out's film screening event 'Reimagining Justice', trained instructors working to develop the framework to form the first prison education network in Mexico, Pitzer College's 'Pathway-to-BA' program based on Inside-Out curriculum, and a partnership launching the second edition of The Journal of Women and Criminal Justice.

Volume seven of the Inside-Out Newsletter updates about the success of Inside-Out's virtual training institutes, as well as virtual classes being held at Arcadia, Drexel, Gwynedd Mercy, LaSalle, Saint Joseph’s, Swarthmore, and Temple Universities. Also included in this issue: A memorial piece remembering beloved community member Marc Trice, The recently published article, Inside-Out: Bringing Law Students Face-to-Face With Injustice by Romie Griesmer, and Inside-Out Podcast Episode #12 with guest host Morgan Mifflin interviewing Christopher Lee Lamoureux.

The sixth installment of the Inside-Out Newsletter discusses Inside-Out courses running during the pandemic, such as a USC Dornsife course on memoir writing and a virtual program run through Pace University. Also included in this issue: a Sentencing Project Report featuring Inside-Out staff member John Pace, a VIU Inside-Out member announced as the recipient of this year's Lieutenant Governor’s Medal, and a graphic identifying 14 states with the highest percentages of the whole community of educators who have taken the Inside-Out training.

The fourth newsletter includes quite a number of features, including a very exciting story about Pitzer College’s new Inside-Out Pathway-to-BA Program, as well as pieces about our Zoom session on racism and a Zoom class focused on race, class, and gender. Additionally, we have included a poem from one of our instructors – the first of, we hope, many literary contributions to grace our newsletter.
